All (or nearly all) About Me

It's a little over due but I thought I would write a little about my self and what I would like this blog to be about.

First, the blog. This is my personal blog in reading this you will learn about me and my interests. It will be about more that just knitting, although that will be the main topic of discussion. I readily invite your comments and suggestions.

Now for a little bit about me...

I grew up in a military family (my dad was in the air force). I have four older brothers and a younger sister. We have a good time when we are together. I am single. I have no kids. Besides knitting, I enjoy doing family history (genealogy), scrap booking, reading, and being an aunt. I volunteer at our local family history center one night a week. AND my favorite person in the whole world is the little girl with red hair and freckles on her nose. Her name is Sadie.

I have opened a shop at Etsy.com named Knitting Bird. (See the side ad.) I sell my knitting in the shop. Most of the things that I sell are baby items such as booties, baby sweaters, baby hats and baby dresses. I do have some scarves and hats that will fit kids, teens and adults. Here’s a link: http://knittingbird.etsy.com

My mother taught me how to knit and crochet when I was 11 or 12 years old. At first I latched onto crocheting, learning all the different techniques and stitches. Now I have become obsessed with knitting, I love it!! I come from a long line of knitters/crocheters, at least 3 generations on my mom’s side. My grandpa on my dad’s side learned to knit in his late 60’s while on an LDS mission to Iceland. He makes beautiful baby blankets for each of his great-grandchildren. I too love to make baby things. They work up fast and are so cute!! I have a couple patterns that my Grandma J. and mom made, a baby sweater and booties; I enjoy knowing I am making something they have made.

I love to watch TV while I’m knitting. I gravitate toward sci-fi shows like Doctor Who, Ghost Whisperer, Fringe and Stargate but I also like shows like Criminal Minds, Burn Notice, Monk, or Dancing with the Stars. I love to watch movies as well, but I never watch an R rated movie. Some of my favorite movies include: Harry Potter (all of them), Pride and Prejudice, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and almost anything with Carey Grant.

Seeing Red

I finished the Red Dress about two weeks ago and I've finaly taken some pictures of it. I had no major dificulties making the dress. It turned out well, although I made the 12 to 18 months size and I am now worried that it is too small in the waist for that size or that it is too long for that size. I usually worry over nothing so I'm pretended it is fine.

With the left over yarn I made two hats and a pair of socks.

The Red Dress

My current project is to make this cute little red dress. I am making the 12-18 month size. It was a bit hard to find the right gauge, finally I decided to use U.S. 3 needles. The gauge was still off a little, but when I went up a needle size the knitting was too loose. I cast on about a week ago and I am about half way through with the skirt.

Projects DONE

I've been busy working on some baby things. They're all done now.

This Little Dress set was really fun to make and turned out better than I expected.

I made this bonnet in less than a day. I turned out cute.

This Blessing dress, bonnet, and botties turned out well.

This little hat was also a quick knit. It turned great.

On the Needles

I've been working like mad to get some more things in my shop, knittingbird.etsy.com. Right now on my needles I am working on a small hat with some seed stitch detail. It is a pattern from Garnstudio & Drops Design. I really like their patterns. Also, I am working on a blessing / christening dress. I have made this dress before for a good friend of mine. This photo is a picture of that dress. The one I am currently knitting is a natural color with flecks pink.

The last thing that is on my needles is a bunting. I am using Vanna's Choice - print from Lion Brand in green.

I don't know if it is normal but I always have three or four or five things started.
