It's All In the Bag



To teach how to change change color or make stripes I created this pattern for a gift bag. The following pattern is for a small bag. It is easy to add stitches (width) or rows (length) to fit any thing you want to put in it.

Striped Gift Bag by Sara Bird

Supplies
3 colors of yarn, worsted weight (size 4)
U.S. size 7 knitting needles
U.S. size 8 double pointed needles
Yarn needle

Cast on 30 stitches using color 1
Row 1-4 stockinette stitch (knit one row, purl one row)
Row 5:knit 2 together (K2tog), yarn over (yo), repeat across
row 6: purl
row 7-12 stockinette stitch (St st)
row 8-9 St st with color 2
Work pattern in St st.
2 rows color 1
2 rows color 2
continue with pattern until piece measures 14" from beginning end with 2 row of color 2
work 8 rows of St. St with color 1
Next row: K2tog, yo (repeat across)
next row: purl
Work 4 rows St st
Bind off
Weave in ends
Sew side seams
single crochet around top edge of bag with color 2 (optional)
I-cord
with double pointed needles cast on 3stitches using color 2
work I-cord as follows
knit 3, do not turn, slide stitches to other end knit, repeat until cord is20" or desired length
make 2 pom-poms with color 2
weave I-cord through the holes
sew pom-poms to ends of I-cord
